The 2026 FIFA World Cup kicks off in just three months, but sadly, Wales, Northern Ireland, and the Republic of Ireland won’t be heading to North America. All three nations’ hopes of qualification came to an end last night after disappointing campaigns in their respective groups.
Wales failed to live up to expectations after their historic 2022 World Cup return. Without Gareth Bale, the team lacked a clear leader and attacking threat. Defensive lapses and inconsistent performances proved costly, leaving Wales out of the qualification spots in their group.
Northern Ireland’s transition period continues, but an inability to score consistently makes competing at this level difficult. Despite some strong defensive efforts, they lacked firepower and finished well adrift of qualification, extending their wait for a first World Cup since 1986.
Last night capped another frustrating campaign for the Republic of Ireland. Despite moments of promise, the squad struggled for creativity and big results, ultimately finishing short of the required points to secure qualification.
